Stay Up Late blog posts 2015

A look back at Stay Up Late blog posts 0f 2015

This article is a look back at some of the Stay Up Late blog posts from 2015. We thought it would be useful to organise them all in to one place and group them around campaigning, Gig Buddies, our occasional creative arts work, and general charity type things.

Campaigning

Some of the things we’ve written about to develop our work to bring about cultural change in support settings so they’re flexible and truly meet the needs and wishes of the people being supported.

Support Workers – Valuing their roles

A post asking if the social care sector values its staff enough, and how we’re in danger of talking their role down.

Social isolation – a potential lifetime of it?

Our views on what the impact of local authority spending cuts will be on preventative support services for people with learning disabilities and autism.

Planning in social care – why?

We’re great at planning on social care but often those plans may not been seen as generating too much action. We’re taking inspiration from this and making plans for the Stay Up Late campaign. We don’t know what they are quite yet but through just getting on with stuff we think we’ll find out what they are soon enough!

Researching what time people leave club nights

The Storm and Thunder Team have been working on making our campaigning information easier to read and more accessible. This is what they came up with.

Magna Carta – celebrating 800 in Malta!

One of the crazy things we ended up organising last year. A tea part at the home of the British High Commissioner to Malta where we ended up launching a ‘Magna Carta’ for people with learning disabilities!

How loud to shout before you ‘Hear My Voice’?

A post reflecting on Mencap’s ‘Hear My Voice’ campaign and the work we’ve done to try and enable people

Gig Buddies

The developing work of our Gig Buddies project, enabling people with learning disabilities and autism to get out to live music with a volunteer who shares the same cultural interests.

Gig Buddies Franchise – Gig Buddies in a Box is go!

How we’re planning to support more organisations around the UK (and maybe elsewhere!) to develop their own Gig Buddies projects.

Creative Arts

Our charity was born out of the work of the punk band Heavy Load and this work is still in our blood and occasionally we get involved in creative arts projects. These are some of things we did last year.

Charity things in general

These are a few blog posts which are more about the general running of our charity.

Our next big ideas from our Punk AGM

For the second year running we’ve run our Annual General Meeting as an ‘Open Space’ forum to get as many people involved as possible in thinking about how we can develop our work. Here’s what came out of this year’s meeting…
