Pride month: out and proud with the Wild Rainbows
Workshop on making Pride events more accessible for people with learning disabilities
Wild Rainbows is the LGBT+ advisory group for Stay Up Late and Gig Buddies. As part of Pride Month the Wild Rainbows had a special meeting with the learning disability charity United Response. We talked about how Pride events could be made more accessible for people with learning disabilities and autism.
Everybody in Wild Rainbows loves going to Pride events. But there were some brilliant suggestions about how to make things better for the future: accessible platforms like at Glastonbury, making sure there’s quieter chill-out areas, wristbands for accessible toilets, involving someone with a learning disability on the organising committee – plus many more great suggestions.
Wild Rainbows have worked with the charity United Response to put together an advice sheet for Pride organisers around the country. Read all about it here
Hopefully, it will mean next year’s Pride events will be more fun than ever!
