Nominations now open for Worldskills UK 2012

Worldskills is the world’s largest vocational skills competition. In October 2011, over 150,000 vistors came to Worldskills London 2011, to see more than over 1,000 people from more than 50 countries compete in a range of categories, including social care. As sector partner for the Care category with Worldskills UK, the National Skills Academy for Social Care supported two Bupa employees, Frances McMenemy and Emma Fitzpatrick, as they competed against young people from 14 other countries.

The next international Worldskills will be held in Leipzig in 2013. Before then, the first rung on the ladder to Leipzig are the UK heats, which the Skills Academy will be running from April – August 2012.

The competition is being greatly expanded this time, with heats now taking place not only in all regions in England, but also in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Winners will go through to the national finals in October 2012.

The Worldskills UK heats are a fantastic opportunity for employers and training organisations you to showcase the skills of staff and students – of all ages – and to celebrate true excellence in social care. The Skills Academy is looking for nominees from right across the sector, so if you think you know someone who deserves a place in the competition, why not put them forward?
