Stay Up Late’s (un)Ordinary conference in London on March 26th is a conference with a difference. While the majority of those in the audience will be professionals working in the social care sector, all of those giving speeches, leading workshops or making presentations will have a learning disability.

In the run-up to the conference we’ll be introducing a number of our speakers. Today we say hello to the Mind The Gap artists.

“We are a team of professional artists and interns with learning disabilities who have experience of paid work in the arts. This includes acting in theatre and TV (Mind the Gap productions, shows for other companies like Leeds Playhouse, Coronation Street, Doctors), producing, research, music, directing and independent projects. There are four interns working at Mind the Gap on Zara – Assistant Director, Assistant Producer, Creative Engagement Facilitator and Researcher. For people with learning disabilities getting paid work in the arts is really rare. We want to share what we’ve experienced so far in the hope other people can make opportunities like this available in their local areas. Our short film will be presented by Daniel Foulds, Artist and Researcher Intern at Mind the Gap, who recently received £60,450 from Arts Council England for his independent project, Hidden History.”
