The Valuing People White Paper said:
The Government’s objective is to enable people with learning disabilities to have as much choice and control as possible over their lives and the services and support they receive… A person-centred approach will be essential to deliver real change in the lives of people with learning disabilities.
That was in 2001 and updated in 2009 – it still seems that in the UK we’re a long way off from delivering this vision, and that’s what drives us on with our work as a charity – to ensure that people with learning disabilities are able to make real choices about the way they lead their lives.
