Hi. Welcome to Stay Up Late. Stay Up Late was started by Heavy Load, the punk band made up of musicians with and without learning disabilities and launched at Carousel's Blue Camel Club in Dec '06. Lots of people were going to their gigs but weren't able to stay to the end as their support workers only worked until 10pm. Heavy Load decided to do something about this as they thought that people with learning disabilities had a right to Stay Up Late and have some fun. And if people with learning disabilities weren't able to choose to Stay Up Late, what other parts of their lives were they not able to make choices about too?

The Avenues Trust are starting up some tennis sessions which they’ve linked to Stay Up Late. The sessions are all about encouraging people to do more stuff in the evening. These are tennis sessions which welcome people with learning disabilities in Sevenoaks, Kent.
A new community tennis group which welcomes people with disabilities is launching in Sevenoaks next week with a free session for anyone who comes along.
The sessions are being launched through a partnership of disability organisation the Avenues Trust Group and The John Heuerman Tennis Academy.
The sessions will be open to anyone of any age, disability or playing ability. They start on Wednesday 18th January and will then run every Wednesday from 9pm to 10pm at Sevenoaks Leisure Centre. The group is also looking for anyone who wants to get involved as a volunteer.
For more information or to book a place at the sessions please contact The Tennis Academy on 01959 523377 or Martin Chittell on 020 3535 0547.
In organising the sessions for 9pm in the evenings Avenues is supporting the ‘Stay Up Late’ campaign which aims to encourage and enable people with learning disabilities to stay up late and take part in evening activities the same as everyone else.

We love hearing about things like this and let us know if you’re running evening events which you’d like to link with Stay Up Late to helpe us promote each other’s work.

National Skills Academy for Social Care:
Copy for Skills for Care e-News Bulletin, January 2012
Nominations now open for Worldskills UK 2012
Worldskills is the world’s largest vocational skills competition. The next international Worldskills will be held in Leipzig in 2013. Before then, the first rung on the ladder to Leipzig are the UK heats, which the Skills Academy will be running from April – August 2012.
The competition is being greatly expanded this time, with heats now taking place not only in all regions in England, but also in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Winners will go through to the national finals in October 2012.
The Worldskills UK heats are a fantastic opportunity for employers and training organisations you to showcase the skills of staff and students – of all ages – and to celebrate true excellence in social care. The Skills Academy is looking for nominees from right across the sector, so if you think you know someone who deserves a place in the competition, why not put them forward? Here’s a message from our friends at Wild Bunch
Hello all Wild Bunch Clubbers J
Happy New Year to you all….
Our Xmas party went very well at Electrowerkz - so this is now our new home!
And to celebrate that, we are opening a new DJ & Live room.
Our first live guest will be Reggae Artist - Bobo Black Star - who has kindly agreed to come and perform.
This means our Valentines Party on Wed 15th Feb will have a reggae flava, and there will be plenty of pop music as well from our 15 Wild Bunch DJs.
For those of you who want to chat, we now have a large dedicated chill out room with a café, so you can sit down and talk with friends - and you won’t have to shout above the music!
There are flyers with details about the event below - if you scroll down this email - or check www.wildbunchclub.com and find out even more!
If you are a staff member please tell people about this event, and support them to come.
It’s always a great vibe at Valentines and perhaps YOU will meet a new friend or maybe even find Luuurve!
Cheers The Wild Bunch Committee.

The good news is we have organised a Valentine Tea Dance instead!
It will be on Friday 17th February from 2-4pm.

The Misfits have got good news and bad news for you…

Reach 4 The Stars are 5 years old this year and as ever have loads of events lined up across the north of England.
For starters they’ve got this one coming up in the plush surroundings of the Sheffield City Hall Ballroom no less!!
Tickets are £10 with pie and peas or £7 without. The Stars will be playing as will our new band - the ClubLand detectives. The night runs from 7.30 - 11. They would like people to buy their tickets in advance if possible so that they know how many pies to buy! tickets available from us or the City Hall box office.
Mmm - sounds like a tasty night out.
